Women’s basketball team loses to Kenyon, 69-56
The Olivet College women’s basketball team fell to Kenyon (Ohio) College, 69-56 in a first-round game of the 2015 Earlham (Ind.) College Quaker Tournament in Richmond, Indiana.
RICHMOND, Ind. – The Olivet College women's basketball team fell to Kenyon (Ohio) College, 69-56 in a first-round game of the 2015 Earlham (Ind.) College Quaker Tournament in Richmond, Indiana. The Comets will now play Dominican (Ill.) University in the consolation game tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m. Dominican dropped a 79-62 decision to Earlham in the other first-round game.
The Ladies had the lead for the entire first period, leading by as many as seven points, 9-2, before settling for an 11-7 advantage at the end. The Comets opened the second period with an 8-2 run, capped by back-to-back three-pointers by senior Dallas Austin and junior Jillian Nickels, to take their first lead of the game, 15-13.
After Kenyon forced a 20-20 tie, senior Jackie Harwood drained a triple to Olivet ahead 23-20. The Comets stretched their lead to four points, 28-24, after Nickels made another three-pointer with 2:43 left in the second period. The Ladies scored seven straight points to take the lead back, 31-28. Junior Leeza Donald hit a jump shot to make the score 31-30 at halftime.
Kenyon extended its lead to as many as eight points, 46-38, late in the third period. A three-pointer by senior Shauni Hankins made the score, 46-41, entering the final period. Olivet scored four of the first five points of the fourth period to cut its deficit down to two, 47-45. The Comets would not get any closer for the remainder of the game.
Three players came off the bench to lead Olivet in scoring. Harwood led the way with 12 points, with three 3-pointers. Nickels and junior Gabby Trudell each had 10 points. Hankins and junior T'Keyia Collins each grabbed six rebounds.
Lane Davis scored a game-high 14 points to lead the Ladies. Ifeoma Archimalo had 13 points to go along with a game-best eight rebounds. Sidney Cera dished out eight assists.
Following tomorrow's game, the Comets are off until next Saturday, Nov. 28, when they host Franklin (Ind.) College. Tip-off at The Cutler Event Center is 3 p.m.
