Olivet College’s Ciba named to Academic All-America® first-team
Olivet College senior guard Chelsea Ciba (Olivet) has been named to the 2013-14 Capital One Academic All-America® Division III Women’s Basketball first-team, as selected by the College Sports Information Director of America.
OLIVET, Mich. – Olivet College senior guard Chelsea Ciba (Olivet) has been named to the 2013-14 Capital One Academic All-America® Division III Women's Basketball first-team, as selected by the College Sports Information Director of America.
A journalism and mass communication major with a perfect 4.0 grade point average, Ciba has helped the Olivet women's basketball post the best school record in school history at 20-3 and are second in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association with a 12-2 record. She ranks second on the team in scoring at 13.9 points per game and assists at 4.8 per game, while also averaging 3.6 rebounds per game. Ciba has a 2.0 assist-turnover ratio with 110 assists and 55 turnovers to go along with a team-leading 41 steals.
Ciba has scored in double figures in 18 games this season, with a career-high 27 points in the Comets' 82-57 win last Saturday, Feb. 15, at Calvin College. She grabbed a career-best nine rebounds in a 77-66 win over Albion College.
Ciba is the 15th Olivet student-athlete, and the first women's basketball player since Stephanie Smith in 2007, in school history to earn Academic All-America® honors. She is the second Olivet student-athlete to be an Academic All-America® selection this academic year. Women's soccer player Jenna Mayle earned third-team honors during the fall.

To be eligible for Academic All-America® consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director. Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 19,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports.
