Lang’s double-double lifts women’s basketball team to 69-58 win at Kalamazoo
Junior Stefanie Lang (Valparaiso, Ind.) posted her 11th double-double (29 points and 19 rebounds) of the season in leading the Olivet College women’s basketball team to a 69-58 win over Kalamazoo College tonight at the Anderson Athletic Center in Kalamazoo.
KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Junior Stefanie Lang (Valparaiso, Ind.) posted her 11th double-double (29 points and 19 rebounds) of the season in leading the Olivet College women's basketball team to a 69-58 win over Kalamazoo College tonight at the Anderson Athletic Center in Kalamazoo.
The Comets scored the first eight points of the game. The Hornets came back with a 6-2 run to trim their deficit in half, 10-6, at the 14:29 mark. Over the next four minutes and 14 seconds, Olivet went on an 11-2 scoring spurt to stretch its lead to 21-8.
Kalamazoo scored the next six points to trail by seven, 21-14, with 8:03 left in the opening half. The Comets answered with a 10-0 run to take their largest lead of the half 31-14 at the 4:29 mark. The Hornets scored the final seven points of the half to make the score 31-21 at halftime.
In the second half, Kalamazoo scored five of the first seven points to be down only seven points, 33-26. Olivet scored the next four points to take their lead back to double digits and it stayed that way for almost the rest of the game. The Comets grabbed their largest lead of the game, 55-35, with 10:06 left. The closest the Hornets would get was nine points twice in the final minute of the game.
Lang drained 12-of-23 baskets and 5-of-5 free throws for her 29 points. Twelve of 19 rebounds were off the defensive glass. Seniors Chelsea Ciba (Olivet) and Heather Lauwers (Ortonville/Brandon) contributed 11 and 10 points, respectively. Senior Kelsey Campbell (Olivet) scored nine points and dished out seven assists.
Nicole Antoine finished with 17 points and eight rebounds to lead Kalamazoo. Morgan Overstreet added 13 points.
The Comets (11-2, 4-1 MIAA) will play their final non-conference game Saturday when they host Rochester College at 3 p.m.
