Women’s basketball team falls to Aquinas, 67-49
The Olivet College women’s basketball team fell to Aquinas College, 67-49, tonight in Grand Rapids.
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Olivet College women's basketball team fell to Aquinas College, 67-49, tonight in Grand Rapids.
The Comets led by four points five different times in the first nine minutes of the game. The last time was 16-12 at the 11:07 mark after senior Chelsea Ciba (Olivet) made a jump shot. The Saints answered with 12-2 run for a six-point advantage, 24-18, with 6:18 left before halftime. They eventually led by as many as eight points until settling for a 32-27 lead at halftime. Aquinas stretched its lead to double figures for the first time at the 17:40 mark of the second half and kept it there for the remainder of the game.
Olivet out-rebounded the Saints, 48-37. Aquinas shot the ball better at a 38.5 percent clip (25-of-65) to 27.9 percent (17-of-61) for the Comets. Senior Kelsey Campbell (Olivet) was the only Olivet player in double figures with 12 points. Freshman Gabrielle Trudell (Mason) came off the bench to score nine points. Senior Heather Lauwers (Ortonville/Brandon) pulled down a team-leading 13 rebounds.
For the Saints, Taelor Sanders led all scorers with 22 points. Allison Heberlein contributed 12 points and 11 rebounds.
The Comets (5-2) now resumes Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play Saturday when they travels to play Alma College. Game time at the Art Smith Arena is 1 p.m.
