Women’s basketball team falls to Hope, 64-45, in MIAA Tournament semifinals

HOLLAND, Mich. – The Olivet College women's basketball team fell to Hope College, 64-45, tonight in semifinals of the 2013 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Tournament at the DeVos Fieldhouse in Holland.

After a 4-4 tie, the Flying Dutch went on a 9-0 run to take a 13-4 lead at the 14:10 mark. Olivet scored seven straight points to cut its deficit to two points, 13-11. Hope used another 9-1 run to push its lead back to double digits, 22-12.

The Comets got a basket to make the score 22-14 and they would get no closer in the first half. The Flying Dutch led by 14 points, 38-24, at halftime. In the second half, Hope stretched its lead to as many as 25 points on three occasions, with the last time being 62-37 with 3:18 left in the game.

Junior Kelsey Campbell (Olivet) posted team-highs in points (10) and assists (seven), while senior Sydney Radde (Stevensville/Lakeshore) grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds. Sophomore Stefanie Lang (Valparaiso, Ind.) scored nine points.

For Hope, Courtney Kust scored a game-high 16 points and Liz Ellis chipped-in with 11 points. Meredith Kussmaul pulled down a team-leading 10 rebounds.

The Comets end their season with a 15-10 overall record, with the 15 wins tying the 1986-87 team for the most in school history.
