Women’s basketball team falls to Trine, 50-47
The Olivet College women’s basketball team fell to Trine (Ind.) University, 50-47, tonight at The Cutler Event Center in Olivet.
OLIVET, Mich. – The Olivet College women's basketball team fell to Trine (Ind.) University, 50-47, tonight at The Cutler Event Center in Olivet.
The Comets led 3-0 before the Thunder score four straight points to make the score 4-3. The teams traded baskets until Olivet went ahead by four points, 10-6, at the 14:16 mark after senior Mellissa Bageris (Milford) made a layup. The Thunder came back with an 8-1 run to take a 14-11 lead. The Comets responded by tying the score at 15-15 and 18-18.
Olivet then took a 20-18 lead when sophomore Stefanie Lang (Valparaiso, Ind.) scored. Trine scored the last eight points of the half for a 26-20 advantage at the break.
The Comets started the second half with a 10-1 run to go ahead by three points, 30-27. The Thunder answered with a 9-2 scoring spurt to take a 36-32 lead, and they did not relinquish the lead for the rest of the game. Trine led by nine points, 45-36, with 6:42 left. Olivet got as close as one point, 48-47, at the 1:17 mark.
Lang came off the bench to lead the Comets with 13 points. Senior SoQuitta DeShazor (Flint/Hamady) joined her in double figures with 10 points. Senior Sydney Radde (Stevensville/Lakeshore) grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds, as Olivet out-rebounded Trine, 50-26.
Trine's Sydney Spragg led all scorers with 16 points. Haley Killingbeck added 15. Each had three baskets from behind the arc.
The Comets will play at Adrian College Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m.
