Women’s basketball team loses to Siena Heights, 68-43
The Olivet College women’s basketball team stepped out of conference play for the night and suffered a 68-43 loss to Siena Heights University at The Cutler Event Center in Olivet.
OLIVET, Mich. – The Olivet College women's basketball team stepped out of conference play for the night and suffered a 68-43 loss to Siena Heights University at The Cutler Event Center in Olivet.
The Comets scored the first basket of the game and the Saints tied the game on a layup. Olivet regained the lead when senior Mellissa Bageris (Milford) made a three-pointer. Siena Heights scored the next four points to make the score 8-5. The Comets scored the next basket to make the score 8-7 and they would not get any closer the rest of the game.
The Saints led by as many as 14 points in the first half, 38-24. Olivet got a basket with 33 seconds left before halftime to make the score 38-26 at the break. In the second half, Siena Heights built its biggest lead to 29 points, 66-37, with 4:59 remaining in the game. The Comets scored six of the final eight points of the game for the final 25-point margin.
Senior SoQuitta DeShazor (Flint/Hamady) was the only Olivet player in double figures, as she shared game-high honors with 15 points. Bageris and sophomore Stefanie Lang (Valparaiso, Ind.) each scored seven points. Lang and junior Heather Lauwers (Ortonville/Brandon) grabbed six rebounds apiece.
Chandler Levit paced the Saints with 15 points. Morgan Warfield added 14 points, including 4-of-5 shooting from behind the arc. Jen Jasinski came off the bench to score 10. Warfield pulled down a game-high eight rebounds.
The Comets (10-6) will travel to play Rochester College Wednesday night at 7 p.m. The game will be played at Oakland Christian High School in Auburn Hills.
