Women’s basketball team defeated by Cornerstone, 71-40
The Olivet College women’s basketball team was defeated by Cornerstone University, 71-40, today at The Cutler Event Center in Olivet.
OLIVET, Mich. – The Olivet College women's basketball team was defeated by Cornerstone University, 71-40, today at The Cutler Event Center in Olivet.
The Golden Eagles made 18-of-32 baskets, including three 3-pointers, and 5-of-8 free throws to lead by 25 points, 44-19, at halftime. In the second half, Cornerstone only out-scored the Comets by six points, 27-21.
For the game, the Golden Eagles shot 50 percent (27-of-54) from the floor and from behind the arc (4-of-8). Olivet shot a dismal 26.5 percent (13-of-49).
The Comets did not have any players score in double figures, as junior Kelsey Campbell (Olivet) led the way with seven points to go along with four assists. Senior Sydney Radde (Stevensville/Lakeshore) scored six points and grabbed a team-leading six rebounds. Junior Heather Lauwers (Ortonville/Brandon) also had six points, while junior Chelsea Ciba (Olivet) finished with three steals.
For Cornerstone, Katelyn Cousins led all players with 20 points on 9-of-13 shooting. Robyn Veltkamp was next with 18 points, and Kayleigh Hammond had 10. Ashley Neidermayer pulled down a game-high nine rebounds, as the Golden Eagles had a +17 margin on the boards.
Olivet (7-3) will travel to play Lawrence Technological University tomorrow afternoon at 3 p.m.
