Women’s basketball extends win streak to six games with 62-51 win at Northwestern Ohio
The Olivet College women’s basketball team extended its winning streak to six games with a 62-51 win at University of Northwestern Ohio tonight in Lima, Ohio. With the win, the Comets improve their overall record to 7-1 and are off to their best start since 2000-01 when they went 8-1.
LIMA, Ohio – The Olivet College women's basketball team extended its winning streak to six games with a 62-51 win at University of Northwestern Ohio tonight in Lima, Ohio. With the win, the Comets improve their overall record to 7-1 and are off to their best start since 2000-01 when they went 8-1.
Olivet scored the first basket of the game and never looked back. After the Racers tied the game at 5-5, the Comets went on a 13-0 run to take an 18-5 lead. UNOH put the next five points on the scoreboard but Olivet answered with a basket to go back up by double figures. The Comets eventually led by as many as 18 points, 30-12 in the first half, and settled for a 32-20 lead at the break.
The Racers cut their deficit in half, 45-39, with 11:12 left in the game. Olivet came back with a 10-3 scoring spurt to go back up by 13 points, 55-42. UNOH would get only close as eight points in the final two minutes in the game.
Seniors SoQuitta DeShazor (Flint/Hamady) and Sydney Radde (Stevensville/Lakeshore) had identical stat lines with 12 points and nine rebounds each. Juniors Kelsey Campbell (Olivet) and Chelsea Ciba (Olivet) scored eight points apiece, while Campbell led all players with 13 rebounds.
Kylie Kahlig and Shaye Warman each scored 14 points to lead the Racers.
The Comets are now off until next Wednesday, Dec. 19, when they host Hope College in a battle for first-place in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) standings. Both teams enter the game with 3-0 MIAA records.
