The Olivet College women’s basketball team fell to Saint Mary’s (Minn.) University, 69-49, today in the second day of the Chicago Marriott Naperville Tip-Off Tournament.
Campbell and DeShazor named to all-tournament team
NAPERVILLE, Ill. – The Olivet College women's basketball team fell to Saint Mary's (Minn.) University, 69-49, today in the second day of the Chicago Marriott Naperville Tip-Off Tournament.
Saint Mary's scored the first four points of the game, and never trailed the rest of the game. In the first half, the Comets tied the game at 29-29 with 2:34 left before halftime. The Cardinals ended the half with a 9-2 run to take a 38-31 into the locker rooms. Saint Mary's led by as many as 22 points in the second half before an Olivet basket at the buzzer created the final 20-point margin.
Senior SoQuitta DeShazor (Flint/Hamady) was the only Comet in double figures in the scoring column with 14 points. She also grabbed a team-leading nine rebounds. Juniors Chelsea Ciba (Olivet) and Stefanie Lang (Valporaiso, Ind.) each scored seven points.
For their efforts, DeShazor and junior Kelsey Campbell (Olivet) were named to the all-tournament team.
Jamie Stefely had a double-double, 21 points and 11 rebounds, to lead the Cardinals.
Olivet returns to the court next Saturday, Nov. 24, when it hosts Manchester (Ind.) University in its home-opener. Tip-off at The Cutler Event Center is 3 p.m. The game is a part of a basketball doubleheader in Olivet, as the Comet men will play Purdue University Calumet (Ind.) after the women's game at approximately 5 p.m.
