Carr named director of outdoor recreation at The University of Olivet
OLIVET, Mich. – The University of Olivet Director of Athletics Haley Diringer has announced Terry Carr as the director of the outdoor recreation program. Carr will oversee the current clay target program as well as an archery program, which will begin competition in Fall 2024. Nationally, 1.3 million student athletes, representing 8,967 schools, participated in archery across the nation. More than 500 schools in the State of Michigan alone offer this program to students within their district.
"It's an exciting time for our outdoor recreation program," said Diringer. "I am not only thrilled to have Terry as our new head coach for the program but also about launching the new archery program. I believe there are some great days ahead for our clay target and archery programs."
Most recently, Carr served as head shooting coach at Lake Superior State University since February 2022. While there, he oversaw all aspects of the program. The Lakers found great success as a new program under Carr, winning the Classic All-Around title at the 2022 Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP) Upper Midwest Conference Championship; as well as third place High Overall at the Michigan Collegiate Clay Target State Championship.
"It is an honor to be selected as the director for the outdoor recreation program at The University of Olivet," said Carr. "I am excited to progress the clay target program to new heights, as well as launch the new archery program in the fall."
A native of Burlington, Wisconsin, Carr earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from Bethel (Tenn.) University in 2017. While there, he was a member of the shooting team for four years. After graduating, Carr managed the shooting range Bethel used for practices. In high school, Carr and his team won the Wisconsin SCTP State Championship, as well as the SCTP National Championships. He holds a Level 1 NRA shotgun coaching certification.
