HOLLAND, Mich. – The University of Olivet softball team lost both games of its Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) opening doubleheader against Hope College today at Wolters Stadium.
- Final Scores: Hope 15, Olivet 0; Hope 12, Olivet 0
- Location: Wolters Stadium; Holland, Michigan
- Records: Olivet 1-9 overall, 0-2 MIAA; Hope 16-7 overall, 2-0 MIAA
- The Flying Dutch scored two runs in the first inning, four runs in the second inning, five runs in the third inning and four runs in the fourth inning to post the 15-0 run-rule victory.
- Olivet was held to one hit. A single by freshman Zola Smith broke up the perfect game in the fifth inning. Freshman Alexis Bond walked in the inning. Both stole a base.
- Freshman Michelle Michelin was the losing pitcher after surrendering six runs (four earned) on six hits and four walks over the first two and one-third innings.
- Hope pushed across five runs in the first inning and seven additional runs in the second inning to record the 12-0 run-rule win.
- Olivet tallied three hits in the game.
- All the hits were singles by Smith and freshmen Olivia Burt and Ashlyn Christy.
- Sophomore Izzy Abalos was charged with the loss after giving up eight runs (seven earned) on six hits in an inning.
- Sophomore Briana Gitchell threw four scoreless innings of relief.
- The Comets host Saint Mary's (Ind.) College next Tuesday, April 9, for another MIAA twinbill. The first pitch from game one is slated for 3 p.m.
