Blouin crowned MIAA softball batting champion

FREELAND, Mich. – Olivet College senior Kinslea Blouin has been crowned the 2019 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) softball batting champion. In 16 conference games, she had 23 hits in 48 at-bats for a .479 batting average.

Of Blouin's 23 hits, five were doubles, two were triples and four were home runs to give her a MIAA-leading .917 slugging percentage. She also scored 18 runs and drove in 12 runs in league play. Blouin reached base safely in 15-of-16 games, and had two or more hits in six games. Her best game was a 3-for-3 performance with two doubles, two runs and two RBI in game one of a doubleheader April 20 at Kalamazoo College. Defensively, Blouin had just three errors 101 attempts while starting every game at shortstop.

Blouin is only the third softball player in school history to be the MIAA batting champion. The others were Kitty Hicock (12-of-27, .444) in 1980 and Vickie Slocum (7-of-16, .438) in 1982.

Over the Comets' entire 36-game schedule, Blouin recorded a .441 batting average, the third-best in school history for a single season. She also ranks among the top five in a season for slugging percentage (second, .793), on-base percentage (second, .511), home runs (second, 8); runs scored (second, 39) and total bases (third, 88). Defensively, Blouin broke the single-season record with 113 fielding assists.

Blouin also ends her Olivet career as the all-time leader in home runs with 15 and slugging percentage at .805. She also ranks in the top 10 all-time in on-base percentage (second, .484), triples (tied for 3rd, 7), total bases (fourth, 178), doubles (tied for 8th, 23) and RBI (tied for 9th, 56).
