Softball team ends season with two losses at Roosevelt
The Olivet College softball team ended its season with two losses in a non-conference doubleheader against Roosevelt University this afternoon at The Ballpark at Rosemont in Rosemont, Illinois. The Lakers won the first game, 4-1, and then rallied to win the nightcap, 5-4, in nine innings.

ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Olivet College softball team ended its season with two losses in a non-conference doubleheader against Roosevelt University this afternoon at The Ballpark at Rosemont in Rosemont, Illinois. The Lakers won the first game, 4-1, and then rallied to win the nightcap, 5-4, in nine innings.

- The Lakers plated an unearned run in the first inning.
- The Comets got that run back in the top half of the second when freshman Dayoni Mahlich hit an RBI-double to score sophomore Paige Poulter.
- Olivet escaped a bases-loaded, nobody out jam in the fourth inning.
- The Comets had two base runners in the sixth inning.
- Roosevelt pushed across three runs in the home half of the sixth.
- Olivet brought the tying run to the plate in seventh inning before a fielder's choice out at third base ended the game.
- Olivet had seven hits.
- Junior Taylor Shellenberger was 2-for-3.
- In the circle, senior Andrea Rico was tagged with the loss. She gave up all four runs (two earned) on nine hits, with a walk and a strikeout.
- Aisley Njissang had three of the nine Roosevelt hits. One of the hits was a double.
- Caitlyn Santiago and Cam Wicker both went 2-for-3 with an RBI.
- Brinn Arwood earned the complete game, pitching win. She yielded an earned run on seven hits.
- Roosevelt pushed across an unearned run in the first inning.
- Olivet tied the game in the top half of the second inning. With the bases full, senior Danielle McCoy ripped a single into left field to plate Shellenberger.
- The Lakers grabbed the lead back with a run in the home half of the second.
- The Comets pushed across two runs in the fifth inning to take a 3-2 lead.
- Olivet extended its lead to 4-2 lead in the sixth inning when junior Jazmin Hildebrand had a pinch-hit single to score freshman Danielle Erickson.
- Roosevelt sent the game to extra innings by scoring one run in both the sixth and seventh innings.
- The Comets left the go-ahead run stranded in scoring position in the eighth inning.
- The Lakers were retired 1-2-3 in the bottom half of the eighth.
- Due to the international tiebreaker, senior Kinslea Blouin was placed on second to start the ninth inning. Roosevelt sent the Comets down in order a strikeout and two fly outs.
- The Lakers plated the winning run in the ninth inning on a one-out single.
- Olivet out-hit the Lakers, 8-6.
- Rico and Erickson each had two hits.
- Shellenberger tossed the entire game in the circle, allowing five runs (two earned) on six hits, with four strikeouts and four walks.
