The Olivet College softball team was swept by Saint Mary’s (Ind.) College in its Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) opening doubleheader this afternoon at the Cutler Athletic Complex in Olivet.

OLIVET, Mich. – The Olivet College softball team was swept by Saint Mary's (Ind.) College in its Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) opening doubleheader this afternoon at the Cutler Athletic Complex in Olivet.

HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME ONE)
- The Belles scored twice in the second and three times in the third inning to take a 5-0 lead.
- After the Comets pushed across an unearned run in the bottom half of the sixth inning, Saint Mary's capped the scoring with two more runs in the top of seventh.
FOR THE COMETS
- Olivet was limited to three hits – a double by senior Taylor Smith and singles by freshmen Taylor Schellenberger and Payton Watson.
- Freshman Gracie Boyle was credited with the pitching loss. She allowed all seven runs on 14 hits in the first six and one-third innings.
- Senior Carrie Chamberlain recorded the final two outs in relief.
FOR THE BELLES
- Saint Mary's registered 15 hits, with six starters having multi-hits.
- Morgan Raymer helped her own cause at the plate, going 3-for-3 with three runs scored and three RBI.
- Krystal Harris, Jamie Young, Cassie Young, Makenzie Duncan and Alyssa Gutierrez collected two hits apiece.
- Raymer earned the pitching win, as she threw the complete game, three-hitter and struck out seven.
HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME TWO)
- The Belles scored a run in the first inning and two runs in both the second and fourth innings.
FOR THE COMETS
- For the second straight game, Olivet was held to three hits.
- All three hits were singles by Shellenberger, freshman Jazmin Hildebrand and junior Haley Reed.
- Chamberlain began the game in the circle, and yielded all five runs (four earned) on eight hits in three and two-thirds innings.
- Freshman Bekah VanDam pitched two and one-third innings of scoreless relief.
FOR THE BELLES
- Gutierrez, Harris and Jamie Young each had two hits.
- Harris scored two runs, while Cassie Young drove in two runs.
- Raymer picked-up the pitching win after throwing the first five innings.
- Zoe Bruni tossed two innings of relief.
