FREELAND, Mich. – Olivet College freshman first baseman Kris Forest and sophomore pitcher/designated player Ashlynn Grubb have earned 2015 All-Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) honors for softball. Forest is a first-team honoree, while Grubb is a second-team selection. All-league honors are based on a player's statistics during the 16-game MIAA schedule.
Led by 11th-year Head Coach James Farnum, Olivet posted an 18-16 overall record, with a 7-9 record against league opponents.
Forest was among the MIAA leaders in several offensive categories, including third in RBI (26), fifth in batting average (.490), tied for fifth in hits (24), sixth in slugging percentage (.816) and eighth in home runs (four). She also did not commit an error in 82 chances for a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage.
For Olivet's entire 34-game schedule, Forest ranked second on the team with a .412 batting average to go along with a team-high 10 doubles, five home runs, 46 RBI, 14 walks, .657 slugging percentage and .479 on-base percentage. Her 46 RBI are the second-most in school history for a single-season. Forest, one of two freshmen to earn first-team All-MIAA honors, made only two errors in 157 opportunities for a .987 fielding percentage.
"Kris had a very productive year for us," said Farnum. "Her power and ability to get run-scoring hits added to our team success."
Grubb started all 16 games for the Comets, with 12 starts in the circle and the other four as the designated player. At the plate, she recorded a .442 batting average as well as five doubles and a home run for a .596 slugging percentage. Grubb scored 17 runs and drove in 14 runs. In the circle, she won five games with a 4.16 ERA and 41 strikeouts in 65 and two-thirds innings.
For the entire schedule, Grubb led Olivet with a .429 batting average, 112 at-bats and 29 runs scored. She also ranked among the team leaders in doubles (nine), RBI (23), slugging percentage (.563) and on-base percentage (.471). Grubb, a 2014 first-team All-MIAA pick, topped the pitching staff with 12 wins, 109 strikeouts and 3.07 ERA in 134 and two-thirds innings.
"Ashlynn had another great year for us," stated Farnum. "She led our team in wins and had numerous big at-bats to help influence our games."
