Kavalunas resigns as head men’s cross country coach
Olivet College Athletic Director Dave Sichterman has announced the resignation of head men’s cross country coach Jeff Kavalunas. Kavalunas completed his fifth season as the head coach of the Comets’ program, while also serving as the associate head coach for the men’s track & field program.
OLIVET, Mich. – Olivet College Athletic Director Dave Sichterman has announced the resignation of head men's cross country coach Jeff Kavalunas. Kavalunas completed his fifth season as the head coach of the Comets' program, while also serving as the associate head coach for the men's track & field program.
"Jeff's service to the college over the last five years is much appreciated," said Sichterman. "We wish him the best of luck in his future pursuits."
Kavalunas recently led the men's cross country team to a fifth-place finish at the 2014 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Championships which was the best finish in school history since 2003. The Comets also ran to a 20th-place finish Nov. 15 at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional which is also one of the best finishes in school history. Kavalunas' teams also excelled in the classroom, earning the MIAA Team GPA award twice.
A national search will begin immediately to find Kavalunas' replacement.
