Men’s Volleyball: Olivet falls to Calvin in four sets

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The University of Olivet men's volleyball team won the first set before Calvin University won the next three to defeat the Comets in a Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League (MCVL) today at Van Noord Arena.
- Final Score: Calvin defeated Olivet 23-25, 25-18, 25-19, 25-14
- Location: Van Noord Arena; Grand Rapids, Michigan
- Records: Olivet 5-23 overall, 0-7 MCVL; Calvin 6-17 overall, 3-4 MCVL
- In the first set, the Knights led 10-8. The Comets responded with an 8-3 run to go up 16-13. Olivet led by three points on three more occasions. After the third time at 24-21, Calvin scored two points on two Comet attack errors. Senior Quinn Dickerson slammed down a kill to end the set in Olivet's favor, 25-23.
- The Comets led 11-9 in the second set. The Knights answered with a 4-0 spurt for a 13-11 lead. Calvin did not relinquish its advantage for the rest of the set.
- Olivet seized a two-point cushion, 8-6, early in the third set. A 4-0 run gave the Knights the lead back, and they held it for the remainder of the set.
- Calvin raced out to a 6-2 lead in the fourth set. The closest the Comets got for the rest of the set was two points at 6-4 and 9-7.
- Senior Deontay Thomas recorded a team-high 10 kills.
- Dickerson was next with nine, followed by senior Everett Haynes with eight.
- Senior Kai Hartman tallied 30 set assists.
- senior Will Mensching led all players with 21 digs.
- The Comets host Wabash (Ind.) College next Friday, April 5, at 7 p.m.
