OLIVET, Mich. – The University of Olivet men's volleyball team split a pair of four-set matches against Wisconsin Lutheran College today at the Cutler Event Center. In the first match, the Warriors lost the first set before winning the next three sets. In the second set, the Comets won the first, third and fourth sets.
- Final Match 1 Score: Wisconsin Lutheran defeated Olivet 17-25, 25-20, 25-19, 25-20
- Final Match 2 Score: Olivet defeated Wisconsin Lutheran 25-19, 23-25, 25-23, 25-23
- Location: Cutler Event Center; Olivet, Michigan
- Records: Olivet 3-12 overall, Wisconsin Lutheran 1-10 overall
- In the first set, the Comets trailed 15-13 before using a 12-2 run to end the set to pull out a 25-17 win. The Warriors led the second and third sets from start-to-finish. The teams traded the first six points of the third set which caused three tied scores. After a 3-3 score, WLC scored the next two points and never looked back.
- Senior Quinn Dickerson recorded 15 kills.
- Seniors Will Mensching and Ethan Valente were next with seven kills apiece.
- Senior Everett Haynes recorded 23 set assists.
- Sophomore Matthew Tollar had a team-leading 14 digs, followed by Haynes with 12.
- Olivet raced out to a 4-0 lead in the opening set. The Warriors came back to even the score at 7-7 and 8-8. The Comets out five of the next seven points on the scoreboard to go up 13-10. WLC answered with a 6-2 run to take a 16-15 lead. Olivet responded with a 4-0 spurt to go ahead 19-16. The Comets did not trail for the rest of the set.
- The second set was like the first, with Olivet leading 4-0. The Comets maintained the lead until the Warriors used a 6-0 run to turn an 18-15 deficit into a 21-18 lead. Olivet fought back to level the score at 21-21, 22-22 and 23-23. WLC scored the last two points to win the set.
- The Comets jumped out to a 7-2 lead in the third set. The Warriors trimmed their deficit down to a single point on three occasions but never took the lead back.
- The fourth set saw WLC take a 14-12 lead. Olivet responded with seven unanswered points to take a 19-14 lead. The Warriors fought back to make the score 24-23 but a kill for the Comets ended the set and match in their favor.
- Olivet finished the match with 61 kills to tie for third-most in school history.
- Dickerson led the way with 16 kills, followed by senior Kai Hartman (14) and Valente (13).
- Haynes dished out 49 set assists.
- Mensching tallied 18 digs.
- Olivet travels to Elgin, Illinois, next Friday and Saturday, February 23-24, for the Judson University Eagles Classic. On Friday, the Comets face Roosevelt (Ill.) University followed by a match against the host school. On Saturday, Olivet plays Midway (Ky.) University and Indiana Tech. On both days, the first match is at 11 a.m. ET, followed by the second match at approximately 1:30 p.m.
