Men’s volleyball team opens MCVL play with three-set loss to Adrian
The Olivet College men’s volleyball team started Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League play with a three-set loss to Adrian College this evening at the Cutler Event Center in Olivet.

OLIVET, Mich. – The Olivet College men's volleyball team started Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League (MCVL) play with a three-set loss to Adrian College this evening at the Cutler Event Center in Olivet.

- The Bulldogs raced out to a 10-2 lead in the first set and never looked back. In the opening set, Adrian had a .333 attack percentage compared to a .080 percentage for the Comets.
- Olivet led by seven points, 12-5, early in the second set. Ten of the Comets' points during that stretch were on kills – four by junior Brock Pringle, three by junior Aaron Giorgi, two by junior Devian Prince and one by sophomore Dan Hayes. The Bulldogs responded with an 8-1 run to level the score at 13-13. Olivet answered with three straight points. Adrian reeled off five consecutive points to take the lead back, 18-16. The Bulldogs did not relinquish their advantage for the rest of the set. In the second set, the Comets had 15 kills compared to 11 for Adrian. The difference was the Bulldogs had four less attack errors.
- Neither team led by more than two points in the beginning of the third set. Adrian used a 4-0 run to turn a 12-11 deficit into a 15-12 lead. Olivet did not go down quietly, as the Comets fought back to tie the set at 18-18 and 20-20 and eventually go ahead 22-20.
- The Bulldogs won the next four points to go ahead 24-22. The Comets fought off two match points to even the score at 24-24. A service error put Adrian on top before two Olivet points gave set point to the Comets, 26-25. Another service error tied the set and an attack error handed the lead to Adrian, 27-26. Pringle tied the set with a kill before two Bulldog points sealed their win. In the third set, Olivet had 15 kills and .102 hitting percentage compared to 11 kills and .024 percentage for Adrian.
- For the match, Olivet posted a .134 attack percentage.
- Pringle slammed down a match-high 16 kills.
- Giorgi and Prince each had seven kills.
- Freshman Jacob Kelly recorded 33 set assists.
- Prince tallied a team-best 10 digs.
- Michael Burkhardt finished with a team-best nine kills.
- Tedrick Gula and Noah Marcinkowski notched eight kills apiece.
- Joseph Campana had 23 set assists and shared team-high honors with 10 digs.
- Kevin Curley also collected 10 digs.
- Olivet returns to action Friday, Feb. 8, with a non-conference match at Lawrence Tech. First serve at the Don Ridler Fieldhouse in Southfield is at 6 p.m.
