Men’s volleyball team grounded by Benedictine in three sets
The Olivet College men’s volleyball team was came up short in a three-set loss to Benedictine (Ill.) University this evening at the Dan and Ada Rice Center in Lisle, Illinois.

LISLE, Ill. – The Olivet College men's volleyball team came up short in a three-set loss to Benedictine (Ill.) University this evening at the Dan and Ada Rice Center in Lisle, Illinois.
THE BASICS

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Eagles held a 7-3 in the first set. The Comets went on a 6-1 run to take a 9-8 lead. Olivet continued to hold the lead until Benedictine turned a 15-13 deficit into a 16-15 lead with a 3-0 run. The Comets answered with two straight points to go back up 17-16. The Eagles then closed the set on a 9-4 scoring spurt to win it 25-21.
- Early in the second set, Olivet had a two-point cushion on three occasions, with the last time being 5-3. Benedictine came back with a 9-4 run to gain a 12-9 lead. The Comets fought back to close to within a single point twice. After the last time at 14-13, the Eagles went on a 3-0 run to take control of the set.
- The only time Benedictine trailed in the third set was when it was behind 1-0. With the score even at 3-3, the Eagles scored five straight points to go up 8-3. The closest Olivet got for the rest of the set was four points after senior Luke DeWitt served two aces to make the score 19-15.
FOR THE COMETS
- Freshman Trent Robinson led Olivet's attack with 12 kills, while freshman Brock Pringle and junior Rhett Pringle each had six.
- Freshmen Aaron Giorgi and Mathew Caamal split time at setter, recording 16 and 14 assists, respectively.
- Junior Talen Schallhorn topped the defense with six digs.
FOR THE EAGLES
- Sterling Glover had 1/4 (10) of the 40 Benedictine kills.
- Erik Kerber was near perfect at the net, with nine kills on 10 attacks for a .900 hitting percentage.
- Markus Reimer posted team-highs in set assists (35) and digs (nine).
