Men’s volleyball team swept by Trinity Christian and Adrian
The Olivet College men’s volleyball team hosted Trinity Christian and Adrian for a non-conference tri-match today at The Cutler Event Center in Olivet. The Comets were swept by both schools in three sets, losing 25-15, 25-11, 26-24 to Trinity Christian and 25-18, 25-17, 25-22 to Adrian.

OLIVET, Mich. – The Olivet College men's volleyball team hosted Trinity Christian (Ill) College and Adrian College for a non-conference tri-match today at The Cutler Event Center in Olivet. The Comets were swept by both schools in three sets, losing 25-15, 25-11, 26-24 to Trinity Christian and 25-18, 25-17, 25-22 to Adrian.
Against Trinity Christian, Olivet had an early 2-1 lead in the opening set. The Trolls went on a 3-1 run to go up 4-2 and did not up the advantage for the rest of the set. Trinity Christian led the second set from wire-to-wire. The Comets maintained the lead in the third set until the Trolls used a 4-0 run to take an 18-15 lead.
Olivet fought back and took a 23-22 and 24-23 lead. The Comets had a chance to win the set but an attack attempt went too long to tie the set at 24-24. Trinity Christian used that momentum to score the final two points of the set to win the match.
Sophomore Luke DeWitt paced Olivet's front row attack with nine kills. He and senior Blake Burk shared team-high honors with six digs. Sophomore Talen Schallhorn dished out a team-best 13 set assists.
Adrian led the first two sets from start-to-finish. In the second set, the Comets used a 5-0 run in the middle of the set to tie it at 16-16. The Bulldogs scored nine of the final 10 points to win the set. In the third set, Adrian led by four points, 9-5, before Olivet stormed back with a 4-0 run to tie it at 9-9. There were seven more tied scores, with the last one being 18-18. Five straight Bulldog points put them ahead to stay, 23-18.
DeWitt finished the match with 11 kills. He recorded his only attack error in the third set to post a .417 hitting percentage. Sophomore Rhett Pringle added 10 kills. Schallhorn recorded 23 set assists. Senior Jason Barbosa registered a game-high 12 digs.
The Comets will now wrap-up their inaugural season next Saturday, April 2, with a Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League match against Adrian. First serve inside The Cutler Event Center in Olivet is 3:30 p.m.
