Men’s volleyball team loses to Dominican in three sets

OLIVET, Mich. – The Olivet College men's volleyball team lost a three-set match to Dominican (Ill.) University tonight at The Cutler Event Center in Olivet. The Stars, ranked No. 13 in this week's American Volleyball Coaches Association poll, won by scores of 25-13, 25-7, 25-14.
The Comets never led in the first set. However, Olivet finished the set with 10 kills and .152 attack percentage. Dominican put the first eight points on the scoreboard in the second set and never looked back, as it hit a match-best .423 in the set. The third set was tied twice at 1-1 and 2-2 before the Stars scored three straight points to go up 5-2. The Comets battled back and trailed by only one, 6-5. Dominican then went on an 8-0 run for a 14-5 lead. Olivet ended the set with a positive hitting percentage.
The Comets recorded 19 kills in the match, which is the second-most this season in a three-set match. Sophomore Rhett Pringle led the way with eight kills. He had five attack errors on 25 attempts for a team-best .120 hitting percentage. Sophomore Jeremiah Cowham was next with five kills and .100 attack percentage. Sophomore Talen Schallhorn had all 19 of Olivet's set assists. Cowham, Schallhorn and sophomore Luke Dewitt each collected six digs.
After resting tonight, the Comets will host Benedictine (Ill.) University tomorrow afternoon at 3 p.m.
