Men’s volleyball team falls to Greenville in three sets
The Olivet College men’s volleyball team lost a three-match to Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League foe Greenville College tonight at H.J. Long Gymnasium in Greenville, Illinois. The Panthers won by scores of 25-20, 25-19 and 25-13.
GREENVILLE, Ill. – The Olivet College men's volleyball team lost a three-match to Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League foe Greenville College tonight at H.J. Long Gymnasium in Greenville, Illinois. The Panthers won by scores of 25-20, 25-19 and 25-13.
After Greenville scored the first point of the opening set, the Comets scored the next five to go up 5-1. The Panthers battled back and tied the set for the first time at 8-8. Olivet went ahead 9-8 before Greenville scored seven straight points to go up 15-9. The Panthers did not trail for the rest of the set.
The Comets opened the second set by putting the first two points on the scoreboard. The teams exchanged points, causing five tied scores. The last one was at 8-8. The Panthers went ahead 9-8 and did not give up the lead for the remainder of the set. Olivet made a late push to cut its deficit to four points, 23-19. The Comets' only lead in the third set was 1-0, as Greenville led by as many as 10 points twice late in the set.
For the match, Olivet had 26 kills with 11 attack errors on 82 attempts for a .183 hitting percentage. Sophomore Luke Dewitt recorded a team-best 12 kills, two service aces, five total blocks (three solo). Sophomore Jeremiah Cowham chipped in eight kills, and team-high .294 attack percentage and eight digs. Sophomore Talen Schallhorn dished out 25 set assists.
The Comets will cross the border into Missouri tomorrow to Fontbonne (Mo.) University at 4 p.m. EST. Please note the start time was pushed back one hour from the original start time.
