Men’s volleyball team loses in three sets to Lakeland
The Olivet College men’s volleyball team lost in three sets, 25-15, 25-19 and 25-11, to Lakeland (Wis.) College in a Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League match today at The Cutler Event Center in Olivet.
OLIVET, Mich. – The Olivet College men's volleyball team lost in three sets, 25-15, 25-19 and 25-11, to Lakeland (Wis.) College in a Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League match today at The Cutler Event Center in Olivet.
The early stages of the first set featured five tied scores. After the last one at 7-7, the Muskies scored three straight points to take a 10-7 lead. The teams split the next eight points to keep the set at a three-point differential, 14-11. The next two points went to the Comets to make the score 14-13. Lakeland then closed the set on an 11-2 run for a 25-15 win.
The second set was close at the beginning. The Muskies pulled away in the middle stages of the set for a 25-19 win. With the score tied at 3-3 in the third set, Lakeland put eight of the next nine points on the scoreboard to seize an 11-4 lead. Olivet was not able to recover from the deficit, as the Muskies went on to win the set, 25-11.
The Comets had a positive attack percentage in each set, finishing with 18 kills and only 12 attack errors for an overall .085 percentage. Sophomores Luke Dewitt and Rhett Pringle each recorded six kills. Dewitt also had four blocks, two solo and two assisted. Sophomore Talen Schallhorn registered 14 set assists. Senior libero Blake Burk led the team with nine digs.
Olivet will travel to play Wittenberg (Ohio) University next Friday, Feb. 19, at 7 p.m.
