Men’s volleyball team swept by No. 6 Carthage
The Olivet College men’s volleyball team was swept by preseason Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League favorite Carthage College in three sets (25-3, 25-16, 25-12) today at Tarble Arena in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
KENOSHA, Wis. – The Olivet College men's volleyball team was swept by preseason Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League favorite Carthage College in three sets (25-3, 25-16, 25-12) today at Tarble Arena in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Carthage entered the match ranked No. 6 in this week's American Volleyball Coaches Association poll.
The Red Men cruised to the set one victory. Carthage led the second set 2-0 before the Comets put four straight points up on the scoreboard to go up 4-2. Following a 5-5 tie, the Red Men went on a 7-0 run to go up 12-5. Olivet closed its deficit down to six points on two occasions, with the last time being 19-13.
The early stages of the third set was close with five tied scores (1-1, 2-2, 3-3, 4-4 and 5-5). After the last tie, Carthage scored five straight points and did not give up the lead for the rest of the set.
Sophomore Luke Dewitt recorded eight of Olivet's 11 total kills. He also had four blocks, including three solo, at the net. Sophomore Talen Schallhorn recorded six set assists and six digs. Senior libero Blake Burk finished with a match-high eight digs.
The Comets will play their first-ever home matches next Friday and Saturday. Olivet will face Marian (Ind.) University Friday night at 6:30 p.m., and Lakeland (Wis.) College Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m.
