Men’s volleyball team loses in three sets to MSOE in MCVL-opener
The Olivet College men’s volleyball team made history tonight when it played Milwaukee School of Engineering for its first-ever Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League match. Unfortunately, the Comets were on the losing end of a three-set defeat, 25-6, 25-7 and 25-23.
MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The Olivet College men's volleyball team made history tonight when it played Milwaukee School of Engineering for its first-ever Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League match. Unfortunately, the Comets were on the losing end of a three-set defeat, 25-6, 25-7 and 25-23.
The Raiders never trailed in the first two sets. Olivet scored the first point of the third set and eventually led by as many as nine points, 17-8. The Comets continued to hold a six-point lead 20-14 when MSOE went on a 6-0 run to tie the set at 20-20. Following three more tied scores at 21-21, 22-22 and 23-23, the Raiders scored the winning points on two Olivet errors.
In defeat, sophomore Luke Dewitt led the Comets with three kills and four blocks (two solo and two assisted). Senior Jason Barbosa finished with two kills and five digs. Sophomore Talen Schallhorn dished out five set assists. Senior Blake Burk recorded a team-best nine digs.
Olivet will stay in Wisconsin and make the 45-minute drive south to Kenosha to play Carthage College tomorrow afternoon. First serve inside Tarble Arena is set for 4 p.m. ET/3 p.m. CT.
