Men’s volleyball team falls to Wittenberg in first-ever NCAA match
History was made tonight for the Olivet College men’s volleyball team, as it took to the floor for the first-time ever in an NCAA match at the Pam Evans Smith Arena in Springfield. The Comets will have to wait another day to try for its first win, as Wittenberg University beat them in three sets, 25-14, 25-13 and 25-18.

The Comets will have to wait another day to try for its first win, as Wittenberg University beat them in three sets, 25-14, 25-13 and 25-18.
Sophomore Luke Dewitt led Olivet with five kills, including the first one in program history. Seniors Jason Barbosa and Blake Burk, and sophomore Rhett Pringle each had two kills. Sophomore Jeremiah Cowham recorded nine set assists. Sophomore Talen Schallhorn topped the defense with five digs.
Olivet will seek that elusive first win tomorrow when it plays two more games at the Wittenberg Quad. The Comets will face Hilbert (N.Y.) College at 10 a.m., followed by a match against Adrian College. Hilbert beat Adrian in three sets tonight.
NOTE: Adrian, Olivet and Wittenberg will all compete in the Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League. The matches this weekend are being treated as non-conference ones, with the official MCVL matches to take place later this year – Feb. 19 at Wittenberg and April 2 at home against Adrian.
