Fremeau chosen MIAA Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week
HUDSONVILLE, Mich. – For the third time this season, The University of Olivet freshman Owen Fremeau has been named the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week.
At the Concordia University-Ann Arbor "Legacy" Meet, Fremeau posted three top four finishes in throwing events. He earned the top spot in the discus (142 feet, 10 inches), was second in the hammer (160 feet, 1 inch) and finished fourth in the shot put (47 feet, 7-1/4 inches). The performances in the hammer and shot put are season bests.
Entering the MIAA Field Day, Fremeau ranks first in the discus, second in the hammer and fifth in the shot put among league competitors. His mark in the discus (154 feet, 9 inches) is a school record, while the hammer mark is second all-time and the shot put mark ranks sixth.
"Owen continues to make big improvements in practice and competitions each week," said Olivet head coach Karen Lutzke. "We are excited to see him perform every time he steps in the ring. There are some big things are in store for Owen as long as he keeps on doing what he does every day in practice."
The MIAA Field Day gets started Thursday afternoon at 12 p.m. from the Gainey Athletic Complex in Grand Rapids. Action continues Friday with field events starting at 12 p.m., and track finals at 3:30 p.m. Calvin University is the host school.
