Chandler tabbed MIAA Field Athlete of the Week
HUDSONVILLE, Mich. – The University of Olivet freshman DeVondre Chandler has been named the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week.
Participating in his first collegiate outdoor meet, Chandler won and achieved a school record in the high jump with a mark of 6 feet, 8-1/4 inches. The performance ranks No. 1 among MIAA student-athletes and tied for ninth on the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Performance List. John Allen previously held the record at 6 feet, 8 inches at a meet during the 1976 season.
"DeVondre had an outstanding competition on Saturday," said Olivet head coach Karen Lutzke. "He picked up where he left off the indoor season. I am excited to watch his growth and development this outdoor season as he has been very consistent in his jumping."
Chandler and the Comets return to action Friday and Saturday at the Davenport University Invitational.
