FREELAND, Mich. – Olivet College freshman Dewan Hawthorne has been chosen the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week.
At the Michigan State University Spartan Invitational, Hawthorne placed second in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 56.82 seconds. According to TFRRS.com, the time is the fastest in the MIAA this season. Hawthorne also ran the leadoff leg of the second-place 4x400-meter relay, which finished in 3:30.64.
"Dewan is off to a great start this outdoor season as this was his first competition and will only get better as he gets more hurdle races under his belt, said head coach Karen Lutzke. "Despite the conditions not being ideal for any of the races, Dewan competed hard in them."
Olivet hosts Albion, Alma and Aquinas colleges for a quad meet on Friday.
