Track: Benkovsky makes finals in steeplechase at NCAA DIII Championships
Olivet College senior Andrew Benkovsky has advanced to the finals in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the 2015 NCAA Division III National Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Olivet College senior Andrew Benkovsky has advanced to the finals in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the 2015 NCAA Division III National Outdoor Track & Field Championships. The championships are taking place at the Merrick-Pinkard Track & Field Complex in Canton, N.Y., with St. Lawrence University serving as the host school.
Benkovsky posted a time of 9:20.59 in the preliminaries. The time was the eighth-fastest in his heat, but the fourth-fastest of the non-Top 5 finishers of each heat. The finals will be run Saturday afternoon at 12:50 p.m.
Benkovsky is looking to be the first Olivet student-athlete to earn All-American honors (top eight finish) at the NCAA DIII Outdoor Track & Field Championships since 1984 when Stan Baker tied for second in the 200-meter dash.
