Track: Benkovsky shatters school record in steeplechase, moves into Top 10 on NCAA list
With a time of 9:05.36, Olivet College senior Andrew Benkovsky shattered the school record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase tonight at the North Central College Final Qualifier Meet in Naperville, Illinois.
NAPERVILLE, Ill. – With a time of 9:05.36, Olivet College senior Andrew Benkovsky shattered the school record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase tonight at the North Central College Final Qualifier Meet in Naperville, Illinois.
The 9:05.36 almost certainly guarantees a Top 10 spot in the NCAA Division III Performance List, with it being the fourth-fastest performance as of 10 p.m. The list of qualifiers for the 2015 NCAA DIII National Outdoor Track & Field Championships will be announced on Sunday night. Benkovsky previously held the school record at 9:18.32.
Also competing at the qualifier were junior Connor Bauserman and senior Greg Lutzke. Bauserman clocked-in with a lifetime best time of 1:53.30. Lutzke ran in the 5,000-meter run and finished in 15:19.60.
The DIII National Championships will take place May 21-23 at the Merrick-Pinkard Track & Field Complex in Canton, N.Y.
NOTES: Benkovsky's time was the third-fastest in the race. The only runners faster than him were a runner from Nebraska Wesleyan University, a fellow NCAA DIII institution, and a runner from Oakland University, an NCAA DI school.
