Track & field teams compete at Al Owens Classic
The Olivet College men’s and women’s outdoor track and field team competed at the Al Owens Classic, hosted by Grand Valley State University. The invitational featured more than 900 student-athletes from NCAA Division I, II and III schools, as well as NAIA and NJCAA institutions.

WOMEN
The Comets finished in 14th-place with 15 points. Junior Cassie Ciaravino (Lapeer/East) scored sixth-place points in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.27 seconds. In the prelims, she shattered the school record at 15.06 seconds.
Olivet's 4x100-meter relay team of senior Jenna Mayle (Ionia), sophomore Courtney Reed (Battle Creek/Lakeview), senior Rachael Wagner (Clinton Twp./Fraser) and Ciaravino was seventh in 52.25 seconds. The same quartet was sixth in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 4:14.95.
In the field events, senior Sara Wegener (Lansing/Lansing Catholic) placed fifth in the shot put at 12.06 meters/39 feet, 7 inches and sixth in the javelin throw at 32.07 meters/105 feet, 2 inches.
MEN
Olivet placed 22nd with eight points. All of their points came in the 4x400-meter relay where the team of freshman Connor Bauserman (Battle Creek/Harper Creek), junior Andrew Benkovsky (Eaton Rapids), freshman Darren Lumpkin (Pontiac/Oxford) and junior Kyle Grimes (Albion) was second with a time of 3:24.85, which was only .37 seconds slower than the first-place team from Grand Valley.
The Comets will participate in the Hillsdale College "Gina" Relays next Thursday-Saturday.
