Track & field teams open outdoor season at Dick Small Tri-Meet
The Olivet College men’s and women’s track & field teams opened the outdoor portion of their schedules today at the Dick Small Tri-Meet, hosted by Defiance (Ohio) College.
DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Olivet College men's and women's track & field teams opened the outdoor portion of their schedules today at the Dick Small Tri-Meet, hosted by Defiance (Ohio) College. The meet was originally scheduled as an invitational, but was cancelled last Saturday due to poor weather. Today's tri-meet featured the Comets, host Yellow Jackets and Bluffton (Ohio) University.
WOMEN
The Comets collected 90 points to finish ahead of Bluffton (69) but behind Defiance (144). Junior Cassie Ciaravino (Lapeer/East) took first-place in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.59 seconds. Senior Rachael Wagner (Clinton Twp./Fraser) placed second in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:32.50.
In the field events, senior Sara Wegener (Lansing/Lansing Catholic) won the shot put (11.54 meters), discus throw (34.17 meters) and hammer throw (38.68 meters). Sophomore Alex Thulin (Colon) had top three finishes in the same field events, second in the hammer (36.72 meters) and third in both the shot put (11.23 meters) and discus (29.96 meters).
Wagner was second in the high jump, clearing the bar at 1.48 meters. Sophomore Danielle Hoffman (Parma/Western) placed second in the pole vault at 2.59 meters. Ciaravinno finished in third-place in the long jump with a 4.90 meter mark.
MEN
Olivet had 67 points to finish behind both Bluffton (107) and Defiance (92). Sophomore Travon Tatum (Battle Creek/Lakeview) won the sprint dashes, winning the 100 in 11.60 seconds and 200 in 22.97 seconds. Junior Jalen Weaver (Albion) and freshman Connor Bauserman (Battle Creek/Harper Creek) finished 1-2 in the 400-meter dash at 50.25 and 51.29 seconds, respectively. Junior Greg Lutzke (Williamston) crossed the line first in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:12.46. Freshman Blake Wilson (Battle Creek/Lakeview) was not far behind in third-place at 4:17.10.
Freshman Bryce Prudden (Charlotte) had the top performance for the Comets in the field events, placing second in the high jump at 1.83 meters. Tatum finished third in the long jump at 5.92 meters.
Olivet is back in action Saturday at the Michigan State University/Auto-Owners Insurance Spartan Invitational. Running events start at 9:30 a.m., followed by field events at 10 a.m. A complete order of events can be viewed here.
