HOLLAND, Mich. – The Olivet College men's tennis team closed the curtain on the 2016 season with a 9-0 loss to Hope College this afternoon at the Etheridge Tennis Complex in Holland.
In doubles play for the Comets, the No. 1 duo of freshmen Ben Morris and Zak Gray won one game in an 8-1 setback. In singles play, four of the five Olivet players each won at least one game. Freshman Jacob Richards suffered a 6-2, 6-0 loss at the No. 2 flight. Freshman Talen Schallhorn won a game in each set in a 6-1, 6-1 loss at the No. 4 slot. Gray and Morris both lost 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 and No. 3 singles, respectively.
"It was really exciting to be able to coach a men's tennis team at Olivet for the first time since 1995," said Olivet Head Coach Andrew DeBruyn. "We may have only won one match but the guys worked hard and have set a foundation for future success of the program. I am also excited about our recruiting class. The new guys coming in should help us take another step forward in the growth of the program."
Olivet now turns its attention to the 2016-17 season. The fall season will kick-off in September and the Comets will play either four or five non-conference matches. The schedule will then resume in February 2017.
