Men’s swimming & diving team defeats Bethel, 150-82
The Olivet College men’s swimming & diving team celebrated Senior Day with a 150-82 win over Bethel (Ind.) University in a non-conference dual meet this afternoon inside the Upton Center Pool in Olivet.

OLIVET, Mich. – The Olivet College men's swimming & diving team celebrated Senior Day with a 150-82 win over Bethel (Ind.) University in a non-conference dual meet this afternoon inside the Upton Center Pool in Olivet.
- Olivet won 14-of-15 events.
- The Comets got off to a fast start as the 800-yard freestyle team of senior Eric Wood, freshman Jacob Ritter, freshman Takato Timmerman and senior Zach Meharg broke the pool record with a time of 7:16.80. In addition, Wood's leadoff 200 split time of 1:43.93 also broke the school record.
- Wood won three individual events – 50-yard freestyle (:22.16), 100-yard freestyle (:51.66) and 500-yard freestyle (5:07.54).
- Meharg swept the backstroke events – clocking-in at 58.28 seconds in the 100 and 2:10.10 in the 200.
- Ritter took first-place in both butterfly events – touching the wall in 53.65 seconds in the 100 and 2:14.00 in the 200.
- Timmerman was first in both breaststroke events – stopping the clock at 58.78 seconds in the 100 and 2:16.59 in the 200.
- Freshman Carter Moore finished first in the 200-yard freestyle at 1:53.99.
- Meharg, Timmerman, Ritter and senior Tom Decker won the 200-yard medley relay in 1:42.56.
- Senior Dalton Miner scored first-place points on the one-meter (216.05 points) and three-meter (224.45) diving boards.
- The Comets travel to Grand Rapids next Saturday, Jan. 25, for Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association dual meets against Calvin University and Kalamazoo College. Action at the Venema Aquatic Center gets started at 1 p.m.
