Swimming & diving teams complete day one of MIAA Championships
The first day of the 2018 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Championships is complete for the Olivet College men’s and women’s swimming & diving teams. Highlighting the action was Ana Paula Montes de Oca leading off the 800 freestyle relay with a school-record time in the 200 at 1:53.08.

Montes de Oca breaks school record in 200 leading off 800 free relay
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The first day of the 2018 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Championships is complete for the Olivet College men's and women's swimming & diving teams.
FOR THE WOMEN
- In tonight's only final, the 800 freestyle relay, the team of Ana Paula Montes de Oca, Sabrina Butler, Abby Campbell and Delaney Graham placed fifth with a time of 8:17.33. Montes de Oca started off with the fastest leadoff split time in the race at a school-record 200 free time of 1:53.08. Butler was next to dive in and had a 2:11.74 split, followed by Campbell at 2:07.16 and Graham at 2:05.35.
- The preliminaries of the three-meter diving were held. Abbie Slater did not advance to tomorrow's finals, scoring 237.05 points.
FOR THE MEN
- The only final in tonight's events was the 800 freestyle relay, and the quartet of Ian Bishop, Bryan Plesner, Kolton Epplett and Zach Meharg finished fifth with a time of 7:30.34. Bishop led off the relay with a 1:50.84, Plesner followed with a 1:52.62 split. Epplett was third into the pool and had a 1:53.30 split. Meharg anchored the relay with a 1:53.58 split.
UP NEXT
- Day two of the championships at the Venema Aquatic Center gets under way tomorrow with preliminaries at 10 a.m., and finals in the same events at 5:30 p.m. Events on day two are the 200 freestyle relay, 500 freestyle, 200 individual medley, 50 freestyle and 400 medley relay, as well as finals for women's three-meter diving and prelims and finals for men's one-meter diving.
