Swimming & diving teams set personal-bests at third day of MIAA Championships
The Olivet College men's and women's swimming & diving teams continue to stand in fifth and sixth-place after the third day of the 2016 MIAA Championships at the Venema Aquatic Center in Grand Rapids.
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Olivet College men's and women's swimming & diving teams continue to stand in fifth and sixth-place after the third day of the 2016 MIAA Championships at the Venema Aquatic Center in Grand Rapids.
Freshman Taylor Tibbetts had the Comets' best individual finish, placing sixth in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 59.96 seconds. The time is the fourth-fastest in school history in the event. Senior Megan Dossey was 16th in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:03.25.
For the men, senior Taylor Howard finished second in the consolation heat of the 100-yard breaststroke to place 10th overall. He completed the race in a lifetime-time best time of 59.95 seconds, which is also the eighth-fastest in school history. Also in the 100 breast, junior Zak Gray was 15th with a career-best time of 1:06.68.
Freshmen Derek Melinsky and Kody Garcia finished 13th and 15th, respectively in the 100-yard backstroke with times of 57.39 and 59.77 seconds. Freshman Bryan Plesner was 14th in the 400-yard individual medley with a time of a 4:39.91. All three of the aforementioned times are personal-bests.
The men's 200-yard medley relay team of Melinsky, Gray, Plesner and Garcia finished in fifth-place at 1:49.27. The women's 200-yard medley relay quartet of senior Emma Cole, sophomore Nicole Zerfas, Tibbetts and freshman Sabrina Butler placed sixth with a time of 1:58.62.
The final day of the MIAA Championships gets under way tomorrow morning with preliminaries at 10 a.m., and finals at 5:30 p.m.
