GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Olivet College men's and women's swimming & diving teams opened their seasons today at the 2015 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Relays. Calvin College hosted the event at the Venema Aquatic Center in Grand Rapids.
Highlighting the meet for the men was freshman Bryan Plesner. He led off the 3x500-yard freestyle relay with a 5:21.35 split. For the women, senior Megan Dossey anchored the 500-yard progressive freestyle relay with 200-yard split time of 2:05.9. Freshman Sabrina Butler's leadoff split, 27.10, in the same relay was a personal-best flat start and her anchor leg split of 25.95 seconds in the 200-yard freestyle relay was a personal-best split time.
In today's relays, the men swam first to mirror the NCAA Championships, where they alternate the gender which swims first. With the men going first at the 2016 NCAA Championships in Atlanta, Georgia, the MIAA has made the decision to follow their lead in all meets this season.
The Comets will return to Calvin next Saturday for their first MIAA dual meet, beginning at 1 p.m.
