Swimming & diving: Olivet men defeat Defiance, women split double dual
The Olivet College men’s and women’s swimming & diving teams traveled to Defiance (Ohio) College tonight for a non-conference double dual meet at the Defiance YMCA. The Comet women split the double dual, beating Ursuline, 88-32, but lost to Defiance, 81-70. The Olivet men defeated Defiance, 49-39.
DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Olivet College men's and women's swimming & diving teams traveled to Defiance (Ohio) College tonight for a non-conference double dual meet at the Defiance YMCA. The Comet women split the double dual, beating Ursuline, 88-32, but lost to Defiance, 81-70. The Olivet men defeated Defiance, 49-39.
For the men, junior Taylor Howard was a triple winner. He won the 200-yard individual medley (2:05.06), 100-yard freestyle (:51.34) and 100-yard breaststroke (1:03.83). Sophomore Trey Jennings scored first-place points in the 200-yard freestyle (1:53.32) and 100-yard backstroke (1:04.95), and second-place points in the 100-yard butterfly (:57.39).
Junior Megan Dossey and senior Jazmin Johnson each won two freestyle events. Dossey touched the wall first in the 200 (2:06.97) and 500 (5:43.63). Johnson swept the sprints, the 50 in 25.86 seconds and 100 in 56.30 seconds. Sophomore Emma Cole took first-place in the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:58.38).
Sophomore Leah Lupu placed second in the 100-yard butterfly (1:13.09). Freshman Nicole Zerfaswas second in the 200-yard individual medley (2:36.00).
Olivet returns home tonight and will host Manchester (Ind.) University and Hillsdale College for another double dual meet tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m. The Comet women will swim against both schools, while the men will compete against only Manchester.
