Swimming and diving: Olivet places sixth and seventh at Carthage Winter Invitational
The Olivet College men’s and women’s swimming & diving teams placed sixth and seventh at the 2014 Carthage College Winter Invitational Dec. 5-6 at the Koenitzer Aquatic Center in Kenosha, Wis.
KENOSHA, Wis. – The Olivet College men's and women's swimming & diving teams placed sixth and seventh at the 2014 Carthage College Winter Invitational Dec. 5-6 at the Koenitzer Aquatic Center in Kenosha, Wis.
Highlighting the meet was senior Jazmin Johnson who won the 100-yard freestyle by more than one-half second at 53.43 seconds. She also placed third in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.66 seconds, which was only .07 seconds slower than her lifetime best performance in the event.
Competing in her final collegiate meet, senior Shana Bush posted a personal-best time of 1:06.88 in the 100-yard backstroke and a season-best time of 2:20.74 in the 200-yard backstroke. In the preliminaries, freshman Emma Cole had a personal-best time in the 500-yard freestyle (5:33.79) and season-best time in the 200-yard freestyle (2:07.03).
Junior Megan Dossey swam a season-best time of 2:04.11 in the 200-yard freestyle and 5:30.82 in the 500-yard freestyle. Freshman Nicole Zerfas completed the 200-yard breaststroke in a personal-best time of 2:50.44.
Junior Taylor Howard had the top finish for the men's team, as he touched the wall in fourth-place in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:14.75. He also recorded season-best times of 1:01.61 in the 100-yard breaststroke and 2:03.57 in the 200-yard individual medley.
Sophomore Trey Jennings placed eighth in the 400-yard individual medley with a season-best time of 4:26.90, which was less than one second off his career-best time. However, he did post personal-best times in the 500-yard freestyle (5:03.93) and 200-yard backstroke (2:05.95).
Sophomore Derek Beslock completed the 100-yard freestyle in a season-best time of 51.01 seconds. Sophomore Townsend Montgomery joined with Beslock, Jennings and Howard for a seventh-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay in a season-best time 1:31.78.
Sophomore Bryce Prudden scored 309.90 points to place fifth on the one-meter diving board.
Olivet will next compete Saturday, Jan. 10, when it hosts Alma College. The meet at the Upton Center Pool gets started at 11 a.m.
