Swimming & diving: Comet men split double dual meet, women swept
The Olivet College men’s and women’s swimming & diving teams traveled to Wooster, Ohio, for non-conference dual meets against College of Wooster and Hiram (Ohio) College. The men’s team defeated Hiram, 110-99, and lost 136-65 to Wooster, while the women dropped 130-55 decision to Wooster and 114-86 decision to Hiram.
WOOSTER, Ohio – The Olivet College men's and women's swimming & diving teams traveled to Wooster, Ohio, for non-conference dual meets against College of Wooster and Hiram (Ohio) College. The men's team defeated Hiram, 110-99, and lost 136-65 to Wooster, while the women dropped 130-55 decision to Wooster and 114-86 decision to Hiram.
The men's team had the top performance in two individual events. Junior Taylor Howard touched the wall first in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:05.76. Sophomore Bryce Prudden scored 233.05 points on the one-meter diving board for first-place honors.
Sophomore Trey Jennings was second in the 100-yard backstroke in a season-best time of 1:00.29 and the 200-yard freestyle in 1:54.34. Sophomore Derek Beslock placed second in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.14 seconds. Howard was second in the 500-yard freestyle at 5:17.01. Prudden scored the second-most points, 196.90, on the three-meter diving board.
For the women, senior Jazmin Johnson took the top spot in the sprint freestyle events in season-best times. She won the 50 in 25.42 seconds and the 100 in 55.57 seconds. Freshman Emma Cole stopped the clock first in the 1,650-yard freestyle at 19:20.36, while teammate Shana Bush was third in the event at 19:43.16.
Junior Megan Dossey had a pair of notable swims. She was second in the 500-yard freestyle at 5:45.11 and third in the 200-yard freestyle at 2:09.16.
Olivet hosts Calvin College next Saturday, Nov. 15, at 1 p.m.
NOTES: The men's win over Hiram was the first coaching victory for Olivet Head Coach Shea Davisson. Today's meet was a reunion for Davisson, as she earned her bachelor's degree from Wooster in 2008 and was a four-year letterwinner on the swimming team for the Scots.
