FREELAND, Mich. – Olivet College sophomore Justin Lavin has been selected the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Defensive Player of the Week for men's soccer.
Lavin played all 290 minutes in goal last week, as the Comets posted a 2-0-1 record. He started the week with seven saves in a 2-1 win over Defiance (Ohio) College. Lavin followed that performance with 10 saves in a 1-1 tie against Lake Forest (Ill.) College and three saves in his first shutout of the season, 1-0, over Wisconsin Lutheran College. For the week, he posted a 0.62 goals against average and .909 save percentage.
"Justin was instrumental in the success of our team last week," said Olivet head men's soccer coach Dan Montanye. "He took command of his box and came up with some big time saves in critical situations. He averaged more than six saves a game in two wins and a tie which is no small feat. Overall, his leadership and confidence in the goal was a major boost to the rest of our team."
Olivet makes the trip to Iowa for two games this weekend. On Saturday, the Comets play a 3 p.m. CT game at Iowa Wesleyan University, and on Sunday, they face Central College at 2 p.m. CT.
