KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Olivet College men's soccer team suffered a 5-0 loss to Kalamazoo College in a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) game today at Mackenzie Field in Kalamazoo.
The Hornets scored a goal in the 19th minute to take a 1-0 lead. Kalamazoo then added three goals in a span of less than three minutes to break the game open 4-0 at halftime. The Hornets netted their final goal only one minute and 50 seconds into the second half.
"The first half cost us today, going down 4-0 at halftime," said Olivet head coach Dan Bulley. "It is in line with the inconsistency this young team brings. We are very much a Jekyll and Hyde team but that does excite me as we reach the tail end of our season.
"We look to take small victories in our defeats. Today, it was the guys did not give up in the second half. We were able to hold a very good and experienced Kalamazoo side to only one goal."
The Comets were limited to six shots, placing five on-goal. Senior Joey Sieg led the way with two shots. Senior Ryan Grashik started the game in goal and played the first 45 minutes, making four saves. Freshman Noah Thelen also collected four saves, while playing the entire second half in net.
The Comets host Alma College next Wednesday, Oct. 14, at 4 p.m.
"Our focus now very much turns to two very crucial games in MIAA play," said Bulley. "We will continue to be tested as a team."
