The Olivet College men’s soccer team lost to 3-1 to Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) leader Calvin College today at the Cutler Athletic Complex in Olivet.

OLIVET, Mich. – The Olivet College men's soccer team lost to 3-1 to Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) leader Calvin College today at the Cutler Athletic Complex in Olivet.
The Comets got off to a fast start when junior Cory Werner-Hoskins scored only two minutes and 16 seconds into the game. Freshman Joby Griggs sent a pass into the box, where Werner-Hoskins finished with a shot to the near post.
Calvin answered 10 minutes later on Travis Vegter's league-leading 14th goal of the season. The Knights took the lead in the 27th minute when Nick Groenewold converted a penalty kick goal after an Olivet player was whistled for a hand ball inside the box. The scored stayed 2-1 at halftime. Calvin scored its final goal in the 56th minute.
The Comets finished the game with only seven shots to 10 for the Knights. Olivet had one more shot-on-goal, 5-4. Freshman Vince Geremia led the way with two shots. Senior Alex Lang and junior Ryan Grashik split time in net. Lang played the first half, facing eight shots and making one save, while Grashik played the second half and faced two shots.
The Comets host Albion College Saturday afternoon at 2:30 p.m.
NOTES: Today's game concludes the first half of the MIAA schedule. Albion, Alma and Olivet are all tied for fourth-place with 3-4 records. The goal scored by the Comets was only second which Calvin has allowed in MIAA play this season.
