Olivet College’s Puente named MIAA Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
Olivet College sophomore midfielder Jon Puente (Kalamazoo/Galesburg Augusta) has been named the MIAA Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week.
OLIVET, Mich. – Olivet College sophomore midfielder Jon Puente (Kalamazoo/Galesburg Augusta) has been named the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week. He is being honored for the first time in his career.
Puente scored the game-tying goal and later the game-winning goal in Olivet's 2-1 win over Hope College in the MIAA Tournament semifinals. The win put the Comets in the MIAA Tournament championship game for a second straight year.
For the season, Puente is tied for the second on the team with seven goals, with three of the goals being game-winners. He also assisted on two goals for 16 points.
"Jon had a great performance against Hope," said Olivet Head Men's Soccer Coach Chad Wiseman. "He came off the bench to score two goals and really elevated his game for the post-season MIAA tournament."
Olivet ended its season with a 16-5-1 overall record. The 16 wins were a single-season school record.
