Men’s soccer team falls to Calvin, 3-0, in MIAA Tourney championship game
The Olivet College men’s soccer team fell to Calvin College, 3-0, today in the 2012 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Tournament championship game.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Olivet College men's soccer team fell to Calvin College, 3-0, today in the 2012 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Tournament championship game.
The Knights broke a scoreless tie on a goal by Joe Broekhuizen with just under seven minutes left in the first half. The score stayed that way until Calvin put the game away with two goals in a four-minute span in the second half. Taylor Pruis scored the first goal at the 73:26 mark, followed by a goal by Travis Vegter at the 77:29 mark.
Olivet finished the game with seven shots, with three being placed on-goal. Junior Fred Smyser (Grand Rapids/Forest Hills Eastern) led the way with three shots. Four other players each had one. Sophomore Alex Lang (West Bloomfield/Detroit Catholic Central) allowed all three goals, while facing 15 shots and making two saves.
The Comets will now wait to see if the NCAA awards them with one of the 20 Pool C at-large bids for the 2012 NCAA Division III National Championships. The NCAA will announce the championships field Monday afternoon at 1 p.m.
