Men’s soccer team loses to Adrian, 2-1
The Olivet College men’s soccer team let a 1-0 lead slip away in the second half, as Adrian College rallied to beat the Comets, 2-1, tonight under the lights at Performance Stadium in Adrian.
ADRIAN, Mich. – The Olivet College men's soccer team let a 1-0 lead slip away in the second half, as Adrian College rallied to beat the Comets, 2-1, tonight under the lights at Performance Stadium in Adrian.
Olivet took the 1-0 lead in the 11th minute of the game. After having his first shot blocked by the defense, freshman Cory Werner-Hoskins (Kalamazoo/Mattawan) knocked in the rebound from two yards out. The score remained 1-0 until 20 minutes into the second half when Matt Davis scored his first goal of the season.
The Comets had several chances to take the lead, but failed to capitalize on those opportunities. The Bulldogs scored the go-ahead goal in the 78th minute when Juan Bernal's shot tipped off the Olivet keeper and into the net. The Comets had two corner kicks in the final five minutes of the game, and off both they had a shot. The first was a header by sophomore John Leutzinger (Washington/Warren De La Salle) and was saved by the keeper, and the second by freshman Michael Moscone (Washington/Warren De La Salle) sailed high.
For the game, Olivet out-shot Adrian, 21-11, including a 9-3 advantage in shots on-goal. Moscone led the way with six shots, followed by sophomore Esteban Russell (DeWitt) with four. Three other players each had two. Sophomores Alex Lang (West Bloomfield/Detroit Catholic Central) and Matt Van Houten (Northville) each played a half in goal. Lang made one save on nine shots in the first half, while Van Houten made zero saves on two shots in the second half.
The Comets will return to the pitch Saturday afternoon for a 2:30 p.m. game at Alma College.
