OLIVET, Mich. -- Olivet College Head Men's Soccer Coach Chad Wiseman has announced the promotion of Assistant Coach Josh Ross. In addition to his coaching duties, Ross will now serve as the recruiting coordinator and camp director for the program.
"Josh has made remarkable strides in his short time here at Olivet," said Wiseman. "There is absolutely no doubt in my mind our success in the classroom and on the playing field has much to do with him being part of the Olivet College men's soccer program."
Ross has been a part of the coaching staff for the last two years. During those two seasons, Olivet recorded back-to-back winning seasons with a 12-7-1 record in 2010 and 14-7-1 record in 2011. The 14 wins were the most in school history for a single-season.
"Josh has done a tremendous job in the two years he has been at Olivet," said Wiseman. "Our recruiting classes continue to get better and better. He does a great job of creating relationships with the recruits. Josh continues to put a lot of hard work in by attending top youth tournaments, camps, high school and club games. He has a very good eye when evaluating talent and knows what it takes to be successful at our level.
"Josh has had a lot to do with the fact our camps have reached new heights. In 2011, we had more than 500 campers between all of our offerings. He has brought new ideas to the camps and works well with all the campers. Josh does a great job building relationships with people in the community and coaches throughout the state."
Ross began his coaching career as an assistant varsity boys' and girls' soccer coach at Kalamazoo Central High School for one season in 2000. He then attended Western Michigan University (WMU), earning one letter on the men's soccer team.
Upon graduating from WMU, Ross served as the head varsity boys' soccer coach at Otsego High School from 2004-07. He was named Wolverine Conference Coach of the Year in 2005 and 2006, and District Coach of the Year in 2007. During the 2006 and 2007 spring seasons, Ross was a volunteer assistant coach at WMU.
Ross was also the head varsity boys' soccer coach at Hackett Catholic Central High School for two years. Under his leadership, the Irish won the 2008 and 2009 Kalamazoo Valley Association (KVA) Tournament title and the 2009 KVA regular season championship. Hackett also claimed the District title, and Ross was named District Coach of the Year.
He earned a bachelor's degree from WMU in 2004 and completed a master's degree in sports management from WMU in 2011.
